Increased training allowance for Youth Employment and Training Programme trainees
Commencing from 23 February 2024, the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) of the Labour Department (LD) has increased the amount of training allowance for trainees to a maximum of $333 per day. Trainees may enrol in training courses of Employees Retraining Board (ERB) or the YETP with the assistance of their case managers with a view to enhancing their employability and preparing them for entering the employment market. Eligible YETP trainees who completed a training course and attained 80% attendance or more are entitled to a training allowance. For training courses commencing on or after 23 February 2024, the amount of training allowance payable for “Youth Training Programme” courses of Employees Retraining Board (ERB) will be calculated at a rate of $167 per valid training day, while that for other ERB courses and the YETP courses will be calculated at a rate of $333 per day (i.e. $166.5 per valid training session). To further encourage young people to acquire practical work experience, unleash their potential and explore employment opportunities through workplace attachment training, the rate of workplace attachment training allowance of the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) of the Labour Department (LD) will be raised on or after 1 July 2023. Upon satisfactory completion of the workplace attachment training with an attendance rate of 80% or more, an allowance would be awarded to the trainees by the Programme Office. The amount of allowance is $5,800 for workplace attachment training commencing during the period from 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2023 and $7,300 with effect from 1 July 2023. e-Learning Support Scheme 2023
The e-Learning Support Scheme (“eLSS”) has been launched under the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) of the Labour Department to provide pre-employment training and job opportunities for young people who wish to pursue their career in information technology, education and multi-media industries, and at the same time, assist schools to promote e-Learning. Candidates accepted to eLSS will attend a free pre-employment training course provided by Academy of the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong and are entitled to have $241 allowance per pre-employment training day on completion of the training with 80% or above attendance. Upon completion of the pre-employment training, trainees will undergo on-the-job training with pay in schools for 12 months as an e-Learning Support Officer. New arrangements on course enrolments and increased training allowance for YETP trainees
Commencing from 1 April 2023, the Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) of the Labour Department (LD) will strengthen collaboration with the Employees Retraining Board (ERB). The ERB will provide training courses for YETP trainees to enhance their employability. From the same date, the amount of training allowance for YETP trainees will be increased to a maximum of $241 per day. Strengthened collaboration between YETP and ERBThe ERB offers around 700 training courses, including youth training courses, vocational skills training courses covering various industries, and generic skills courses. YETP case managers will assist trainees in selecting and enrolling in suitable training courses of the ERB. Moreover, the YETP will continue to arrange training courses for special employment projects or specific service targets to enhance trainees' vocational skills and prepare them for entering the employment market.Increased amount of training allowanceEligible YETP trainees who completed a training course and attained 80 percent attendance or more are entitled to a training allowance. Under the YETP, the rate of training allowance for trainees who completed courses under the Youth Training Programme of the ERB will be $121 per valid training day, while that of other ERB courses or YETP courses will be $241 per day (or $120.5 per valid training session). It is not easy to find a job, right?Why not try to find a job through On-the-Job Training under YETP of Labour Department?Job Application Process 1. Trainees may select on-the-job training vacancy online by themselves or under the guidance of Case Managers and register with the Programme Office. The Programme Office may also introduce suitable on-the-job training vacancies to trainees depending on different needs and situations. 2.The Programme Office will verify the eligibility of Trainees who register for vacancies or inform them of the registration progress within four working days, then confirm the arrangement of interviews or submission of trainees' resumes with Employers and refer Trainees to Employers for recruitment selection. 3.When Employers receive Trainees' resumes, they may arrange interviews or other recruitment process with Trainees directly or through the Programme Office. 4. Employers have to return all the referral results to the Programme Office so as to inform both Trainees and their case managers of the results afterwards. If Trainees did not receive any notification about interview two weeks after submission of resumes, they should assume their applications unsuccessful and consider applying for other job vacancies. 5. If Employers contact trainees to make employment arrangement directly, Trainees should inform their case manager and the Programme Office as soon as possible, and also update their employment status online. If the employment is successfulTrainees will start their on-the-job training and draw up an Employment Contract with Employers. The Programme Office will confirm the arrangement of on-the-job training with Employers and Trainees. During the on-the-job training period- Trainees are engaged as employees with employer-employee relationship, Employers will pay salary to Trainees. - Employers will appoint staff with relevant work experience as Trainees’ mentors so as to ensure suitable training and guidance support to trainees. - Trainees may apply for off-the-job vocational course subsidy from the Programme Office and reimburse course and examination fees up to $4,000 for each on-the-job training placement under the YETP. - Case managers will provide on-the-job support services to Trainees. Upon completion of the on-the-job training- Employers will issue a certificate specifying the skill/qualification attained and the period of on-the-job training to Trainees. - Trainees with good performance may have the opportunities to be offered further employment by employers.
